RELATED LEGISLATION:
Author of H.R. 2133 - The Health Security for All Americans Act
This legislation allows states to decide how to provide quality, affordable and comprehensive health coverage for all residents, while providing broad federal guidelines and federal assistance. This legislation would guarantee health care for all Americans, provide a choice of plans and doctors, and reduce bureaucracy. It would provide the needed flexibility for all states to develop the health care plans that best suits their needs.
Co-Author of H.R. 5472 - The Reauthorization of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
This bill will provide increased funding for the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). The NBCCEDP provides low-income women with little or no health insurance with breast and cervical cancer screening, education, outreach and case management services.
Co-Author of H.R. 5791 - The Medicare Home Infusion Consolidated Coverage Act
This bill will provide comprehensive Medicare coverage for home infusion therapy. Patients suffering from cancer, congestive heart failure, serious infections, and other conditions often require infusion therapy, which involves the administration of drugs directly into the bloodstream via a needle or catheter. Unfortunately, Medicare current does not provide full coverage of home infusion therapy. This bill provides for comprehensive coverage of home infusion therapy.
Cosponsor of H.R. 1402 - The Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act
This bill would require more complete parity between mental health and other health insurance benefits, including equal amounts of coverage, deductibles and co-payments. Mental illness and substance abuse are tangible, treatable health problems like hypertension, cancer and heart disease, yet millions of hardworking men and women still find that their health plans place strict limits on both inpatient and outpatient coverage for mental health benefits.
Cosponsor of H.R. 752 - The Medicare Prescription Drug Savings and Choice Act
This bill will lower drug costs and simplify Medicare Part D. Specifically, H.R. 752 will amend Part D to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to offer one or more Medicare-operated prescription drug plan nationally, with one national premium. It would also give the Secretary the authority to negotiate lower prices for Medicare beneficiaries by using the negotiating power of Medicare’s over 40 million beneficiaries.
