RELATED LEGISLATION:
Cosponsor of H.R. 1073
Would restrict the application of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) to
individuals whose combined monthly income from the individual's primary insurance
amount exceeds $2,000.
Cosponsor of H.R. 1464 - Social Security Benefits Fairness Act of 2001
Would provide that a monthly benefit be paid for the month in which the recipient
dies, subject to a reduction of 50 percent if the recipient dies during the first
15 days of such month.
Cosponsor of H.R. 664
Would modify the formula for determining the amount monthly Old Age, Survivors
and Disability Insurance (OASDI) benefits be payable to a spouse so that the
total amount is not less than the combined monthly benefit.
Cosponsor of H.R. 848 - Social Security Benefits Restoration Act of 2001
Will restore Social Security benefits to retirees who worked in both the private
and public sector. In 1983, the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) was enacted.
This provision substantially reduced benefits by applying a much lower rate of
return to the government retiree’s private sector earnings. WEP reduces
Social Security benefits for federal, state and local government retirees who
earned those benefits while working in the private sector. The Social Security
Benefit Restoration Act will eliminate the WEP.
Notch Issue Legislation
Broad Social Security reform legislation is likely to be considered in the near
future. I will work to ensure that the "notch" issue will get fair
consideration during that debate.
Voted for H.R. 2 - Social Security and Medicare Lock-Box Act of 2001
This bill would attempt to enforce setting aside a portion of federal budget
surpluses equal to the Social Security and Medicare trust fund surpluses pending
enactment of Social Security and Medicare reform legislation.
